And I serve new and expecting families in the West Kootenay area by providing them with intuitive, evidence-based support as a Postpartum Doula and Childbirth Educator. As your West Kootenay Postpartum Doula, I am dedicated to supporting your entire family, no matter what it looks like. I believe that supporting folks in the postpartum creates stronger families.
BC born, I moved to Alberta for school way back when I was a young thing fresh out of school with dreams of changing the world. After finishing university and meeting my husband, I was a teacher until I got pregnant and my dreams only grew. My first pregnancy ended in a devastating miscarriage that had me feeling completely alone with many of my dreams dashed. Eventually, I went on to have 4 children within 6 years and my dreams began to grow again. We’ve recently relocated to Trail BC in the West Kootenays and are loving being back in the mountains.
Being away from my family, I needed to build my own support network once I had children. So I did. But I forgot that I needed to tell them how I needed them to help me. So I stumbled and ended up fighting postpartum depression and anxiety. After having my last child, I realized that parents need so much more support as they transition through the Fourth Trimester – no matter how many babies they have had. With each child I had, I found that the support lessened as my support network thought I had it all together.
Well, I didn’t.
Not at first. It’s just plain HARD adding another person to your family, taking care of all the baby’s needs, and still taking care of the older children’s needs. On top of that, managing a household and nurturing a relationship with your partner and making sure you’re making time for yourself, oh, and don’t forget that you need to keep Great Aunt Margaret informed of how the whole family is doing by regularly updating your social media or you will never hear the end of it. It’s enough to make your head spin.
And that’s where I come in.
As a certified Full Spectrum Birthworker and Childbirth Educator, I’ve been supporting families since 2018. And in 2023, I started offering documentary postpartum photography to families. No matter what your family looks like, I help you find your way through the confusing and emotional time that is birth and the early months postpartum. Whether through prenatal classes, postpartum doula support, or even postpartum photography, I help you figure out the way to your parenting journey so that you can not just survive, but thrive. I make it easier and build your confidence so you can rock this birth and parenting thing. I know that you can do this!
